What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

  1. How much faster are u on a 'bent that a std road bike?

I'm have a fixed gear and a road bike that I'm very fond of, but I have never tried a recumbent. I'm looking for speed and I think I'd like one of those long wheelbase dandies with the under-the-seat steering. If I average 18 mph for a 100 mile century, would I be alot faster, assuming the...

  2. Headrest recommendations?

I have a Rans Stratus, but recently bought a Optima "Orca" high racer recumbent, which has a more reclined hard shell seat. At this point it seems like holding my head up is a lot of work. I'm wondering (a) if I should buy a headrest, or wait a while and see if I get used to the more reclined...

  5. Women?

I just got my SUN 3x three wheel recumbent bike. I am 59 years old female in Ohio. I have rails to trails to ride on and am lucky enough to live 1/2 mile from the trail. Each day I have been out adding more miles to the ride. I am a walker so it has been easy on the muscles. And the weather...

  6. 9 yr old gets BENT!

The other day my 9 yr old son was looking at the array of bikes hanging in the garage and wanted to know which one(s) he might be able to ride. So I pulled down the faithful ol' BikeE and adjusted it to fit him. After about 30 minutes of contemplation, he decided he had it figured out and...

  8. Foot pain...Pedal recommendations?

Hello. I'm greatly enjoying my newish Stratus XP with one exception: I'm suffering from the foot pain not uncommon when using smaller, mountain bike-style pedals on recumbent bikes. The pain is both numbness towards the bottom of the foot as well as what I perceive to be nerve issues higher on...

  9. a suspended seat, does this exist?

Hi all, I have a question. I've had back surgery, so I need some cushion to protect my spine. Unfortunately, I'm not really a fan of dual suspension either, because it adds weight, robs some energy, and for a touring bike, adds risk of breakdown. In the upright world, the perfect solution for me...

  10. Knee Pain?

I am relativly new to riding recumbents. I have a Lightfoot Ranger, a LWB bike. It is a heavy bike and when I ride and try to push the speed it only takes a couple of miles and my knees start hurting. I am wondering if my seat is too close to the peddles or too far? Thanks

  12. Riding lowracer on windy day.

It gets windy here in South Florida this time of year. Decided to take my Zox 20 lowracer clone for a spin in 20mph winds this morning. It was nice and comfy down there riding against the wind while uprights were struggling with the wind up there. One DF rider I encountered asked me while waiting...

  13. Do you know your recumbent's CdA?

Has anyone here measured the CdA of their recumbent? I'm actually not interested in what the values are, I'm more interested in how you did it: wind tunnel, field tests, or something else.

  14. Do recumbants use the same muscles?

Sorry if this has been posted before but I spend most of my time on the roadbiking area. It's getting colder in around my parts and I'm looking to join my local YMCA to keep some of the fitness I gained this summer on my road bike but they only have recumbant indoor bikes. Would I be wasting my...

  15. starter bent

hi newbie here. I want a bent, looking for a cheap one, but still useable. I saw the walmart semi-recumbent, but it has small tires. Can it accept a bigger rear wheel? I like the look of the actionbents. I like the uss better than oss. Also found a bike-E. So it's wally, actionbent or bike...

  16. Prone

Has anyone ever come up with bike frame ridden in the prone position? I only thought of this after watching human powered submarine contestants powering their U-boats laying on their bellys so that they could see forward through clear bubble nose cones.

We want to get a trailer to transport or tandem Terra Trike, preferably one that we can put the grandkids bikes in too. When our TT is broken down, there is no room for the grandkids in the car, much less their bikes. Found a reasonably priced, lightweight one at Harbor Freight's website:...

  20. Aluminum vs Steel frames

Some say Aluminum frames are too stiff, no flex. I am considering a Giro 20TT; 4 1/2 lb lighter, upgraded components and disc brakes, vs steel Giro. I will try one, but am interested in opinions. Any comments? Mark
