Hey how's it going? I havent been active on these forums in a couple years minus a few random pop ins, but after my recent seperation from the military I want to get back into BMX. I been out of the scene for a while now and i don't know which companies are reputable (sp?) anymore. I cant believe how light bikes got over the last 4 years.

Heres what I am looking at ( in order ) :
- Fit STR Edwin Sig 2010
http://www.danscomp.com/101895.php?cat=BIKES
- Eastern Reaper 2010
http://www.danscomp.com/101587.php?cat=BIKES
- DK Aura 2010
http://www.danscomp.com/101255.php?cat=BIKES#

When I left the sport Fit was the big name, but things change and I just want to make sure i'm not buying garbage. Are these 3 selections any good? Any better suggestions for <700$.

Thanks for the help in advance, cant wait to get back into the game

Hi,

Any ideas what these pedals are? Are they worth anything? The platform pedals say "k174 FP-966 on the inner lip. The ones with toe clips say R100 on the pedal body. Both are 1/2" threads.

Thanks in advance.

I could use some advice. I have an 11 year old who is fast progressing on BMX - doing tricks and begining to ride skateparks.

I found him a well equipped Redline Triple x on Craigs List earlier this year which has been super solid and great taking abuse, but we think it was build for a grown up and he complains it is too heavy.

Could you recommend lighter weight, well built BMX models for me to look out for on Craigs List (in other words roughly between 3-8 years old - not this years models)?

I'm a road guy, and don't know my BMX. With the jumps he's starting to do I want a bike that won't fail on him. I'm hoping to buy used on Craigs List and spend somewhere between $80 - 150.

I know components also make a difference so advice on those would be great too.

Thanks.:thumb:

I'm an experienced road bike and commuter bike mechanic. I've worked in a few shops and have a good touch setting things up. But I have no BMX riding experience, no BMX shopping experience, and I don't know the little ins and outs of the bikes.
I'm working on a customer's bike now. It's a Diamondback Joker. He brought it in for a simple tube change, but I felt a LOT of play in the rear hub. After disassembling it, I found it uses a bunch of small 1/8" balls. The balls were shot, I mean chewed up, the cones and races were also shot.
My question is, why would they use such small balls in a BMX hub, a hub that's designed to get abused, jumped, jolted etc. Is this just something they put on cheap OEM wheels?
What are the standards for hub axles. I didn't have a pair of calipers, but this appeared to be between 13 and 14mm. Replacement wheels seemed to come in 14mm, so I assume this is one of the standards.
Does anyone know of a good website that is a good source for this type of information?
